ProdCom is licensed on a per-device basis. Each subscription is intended to cover one machine or device. This page explains how that works across macOS and iOS and addresses common questions about using ProdCom on multiple devices.
The Short Version
| Subscription type | Covers | Cross-device? |
|---|---|---|
| Direct (purchased on prodcom.io) | One Mac | No — macOS only, does not extend to iOS. |
| App Store (macOS or iOS) | One device | See note below. |
Direct Licenses (Purchased on prodcom.io)
Direct subscriptions are activated with a license key emailed after purchase. The key activates ProdCom on one Mac. It does not grant access to the iOS app — macOS and iOS are separate products with separate subscriptions.
If you see "No active subscription found" on an iPad or iPhone after purchasing through the website, this is expected. A direct license is a macOS-only subscription and is not linked to your Apple ID or the App Store.
App Store Subscriptions
ProdCom is intended as a one-device license regardless of how it is purchased. However, Apple's App Store may allow an App Store subscription to appear on other devices signed in with the same Apple ID. This is a side effect of how the App Store handles purchases — it is not a guaranteed feature of ProdCom and may change in the future.
Do not rely on cross-device access from a single App Store subscription for production workflows. If you need ProdCom on both a Mac and an iPad, the supported approach is a separate subscription for each device.
Common Scenarios
"I bought on the website — why doesn't my iPad have access?"
Direct purchases (prodcom.io) provide a macOS license key. This key is not connected to the App Store or your Apple ID, so iOS devices won't recognize it. To use ProdCom on iOS, you need a separate App Store subscription on that device.
"I have an App Store subscription on my Mac — does it work on my iPad?"
It might, because the App Store shares purchases across devices signed in with the same Apple ID. However, ProdCom is licensed per device — this cross-device behavior is an App Store characteristic, not a ProdCom entitlement, and may not be available in the future.
"I want ProdCom on my Mac and iPad for production use"
Purchase a subscription for each device. For macOS, a direct license from prodcom.io is recommended. For iOS, subscribe through the App Store on that device. This ensures each device has its own supported license.
Using Mac + iPad Together with Network Sharing
A common workflow is running ProdCom on a Mac connected to a Dante or other audio interface, then viewing transcripts on an iPad for mobility. Rather than needing speech recognition on both devices, you can use Network Sharing to stream channels from the Mac to the iPad over your local network.
